Core Strategy: Focus the Head
Destroy the Golem Head first to trigger Phase 2 early!
The detached head is more aggressive but the body becomes less threatening without it. By focusing the head, you reduce the overall damage output faster. Alternatively, destroy both fists first to make the fight much safer.
- 1Start the fight by focusing all damage on the Golem Head
- 2Use platforms to stay above Golem's walking path while dodging the extending fists
- 3Once the head detaches, switch to a mobile fighting style to avoid eye lasers
- 4Destroy the remaining body quickly as the free head becomes increasingly aggressive
- 5Use the temple's own traps to your advantage by wiring them to deal extra damage
Combat Phases
Behavior Patterns
Phase 1: Body Attack
Golem attacks with its fists, which extend outward to punch the player. The body walks slowly but the fists have long reach and deal significant damage. The head fires ricocheting fireballs while attached to the body.
Phase 2: Free Head
Once the head's HP is depleted, it detaches from the body and begins flying freely. The detached head fires rapid eye lasers at the player and has increased movement speed, making it the primary threat in the second phase.
Fist Management
Both fists attack independently by extending toward the player. They can be destroyed separately to reduce incoming damage. Prioritize dodging the fists while focusing damage on the head or body.
Advanced Golem Techniques
Temple Trap Exploitation
Wire Lihzahrd flame traps, spike ball traps, and super dart traps to 1-second timers. They deal damage to Golem automatically, shaving thousands of HP for free while you focus on dodging.
Part Targeting Priority
Kill both fists first (7,000 HP each) to eliminate the most dangerous attacks. Then focus the head (16,000 HP) to trigger the detach phase. Body goes last since it barely threatens you alone.
Head Phase Management
When the head detaches at 0 HP, it becomes a Free Head with 11,200 HP and fires rapid eye lasers. Switch to homing weapons (Chlorophyte Bullets, Spectre Staff) so you can focus on dodging instead of aiming.
Class Strategies
Megashark with Chlorophyte Bullets handles everything. Homing bullets track fists and the free head automatically.

Fist Slam DamageMed
Both fists deal 59 base damage each and extend across the arena with long reach
Destroy both fists first. They have 7,000 HP each and removing them cuts incoming damage dramatically.
Eye Laser BarrageMed
The detached head fires rapid eye lasers that track the player
Keep moving horizontally on platforms. The lasers have slight tracking delay you can outrun with wings.
Arena Too CrampedLow
Fighting in the default temple room leaves almost no dodge space
Expand the room to 100+ blocks wide and add 2-3 platform layers before starting the fight.
Head Detach SurpriseLow
Players not expecting the head to fly freely get caught off guard by the phase transition
Watch for the head detaching and immediately switch to a mobile dodging style. The body slows down when the head separates.
Low DPS TimeoutLow
Golem has multiple parts totaling ~50,000 HP across all components
Use Chlorophyte gear minimum. Bring class-appropriate weapons and focus fire on one part at a time instead of spreading damage.

FAQ
QWhat is the best kill order for Golem in Terraria?
Fists first, head second, body last. Both fists deal 59 base damage and have long reach — removing them early cuts incoming damage dramatically. The head has 16,000 HP and fires fireballs while attached. Once the head HP hits zero it detaches and becomes a flying threat with eye lasers (11,200 HP as Free Head). The body only has 9,000 HP and barely fights back once everything else is destroyed. Follow this order and the fight feels like a pushover.
QWhere do you find Lihzahrd Power Cells in Terraria?
Two main sources: Lihzahrd enemies inside the Jungle Temple drop them at a 2% rate, and temple chests almost always contain one. You only need one Power Cell per fight since you use it at the Lihzahrd Altar to summon Golem. If you run out, just farm Flying Snakes and Lihzahrds inside the temple — they respawn endlessly. You can also find extras in Lihzahrd Chests scattered around the temple.
QWhat does Golem drop in Terraria?
The big drops: Beetle Husk (guaranteed, used for Beetle Armor), Picksaw (25% chance — mines Lihzahrd Bricks), Sun Stone (12.5%), Eye of the Golem (12.5%), Heat Ray (14.29%), Stynger (14.29%), Golem Fist (14.29%), and Staff of Earth (14.29%). Picksaw is the one you want ASAP — it lets you mine and reshape the entire temple. Beetle Husk is essential for crafting Beetle Armor, the best melee tank set in the game.
QHow do you set up an arena for Golem in the Jungle Temple?
Expand the temple room where the Lihzahrd Altar sits. Mine out at least 100 blocks wide and add 2-3 layers of wooden platforms for vertical movement. Place Campfires every 40 blocks, Heart Lanterns for regen, and a small honey pool to step into. The killer move: wire up existing Lihzahrd traps (flame, spike ball, super dart) to 1-second timers. They deal thousands of damage to Golem for free. You need the Picksaw or better to mine Lihzahrd Bricks — first kill might require fighting in a tighter space.
QIs Golem hard to beat in Terraria?
Golem is one of the easiest bosses in the game relative to its progression point. By the time you reach Golem, you have Chlorophyte gear, post-Plantera accessories, and strong weapons. Golem moves slowly, attacks predictably, and its multi-part design actually works against it — destroy the fists and it loses most of its damage. With temple traps wired up, you can practically AFK the first phase. Most players farm Golem 10+ times for Beetle Husks without breaking a sweat.
QHow do you craft Beetle Armor from Golem drops?
Golem drops Beetle Husks (guaranteed). Combine Beetle Husks with Turtle Armor pieces at a Mythril Anvil. You need Turtle Armor first — craft it from Chlorophyte Bars + Turtle Shells (dropped by Giant Tortoises in the Jungle). Beetle Shell (tank version) gives damage reduction stacking up to 45%. Beetle Scale Mail (DPS version) gives a damage and speed boost. You need about 18 Beetle Husks total for a full set, so plan on killing Golem at least 3-4 times.
