Solar Pillar
The Solar Pillar is the hardest of all four Celestial Pillars. Crawltipedes one-shot airborne players. Selenians reflect projectiles back at you. Stay on the ground, use melee or non-reflectable attacks, and clear 100/150 enemies to break the shield. Drops Solar Fragments for Solar Eruption, Daybreak, and Solar Flare Armor.
Quick GuideHard
- Crawltipedes ONLY aggro airborne players — stay grounded
- Selenians reflect bullets and arrows — use melee or wait for spin to end
- Corites charge in straight lines — dodge horizontally

Core Strategy: Stay on the Ground
DO NOT FLY. Crawltipedes will one-shot you if you leave the ground.
Solar Pillar is a ground-only fight. Crawltipedes exist solely to punish airborne players. Selenians punish careless ranged attacks. The entire strategy revolves around fighting on flat terrain with melee or carefully timed projectiles.
- 1Stay on the ground at all times — even a double jump can trigger Crawltipede aggro
- 2Fight Selenians with melee weapons or wait for their spin to end before shooting
- 3Dodge Corite charges horizontally — they dive in straight lines
- 4Clear 100 enemies (150 in Expert) to break the shield, then burst down the 20,000 HP pillar
- 5Use Solar Eruption or Daybreak after crafting — they ignore Selenian reflects
Combat Phases
Behavior Patterns
Crawltipede — Airborne Killer
Crawltipedes only target players who leave the ground. They deal massive damage and are near-impossible to outrun in the air. The ONLY safe play is staying grounded. Their tail is their weak point (400 HP) but engaging them is a waste of time — just stay on the ground.
Selenian — Projectile Reflector
Selenians spin and reflect all projectile-based attacks back at you for full damage. Bullets, arrows, and many magic projectiles get bounced. Use melee swings, piercing weapons, or wait until they stop spinning to attack. Ranged players need to time their shots carefully.
Corite — Charging Fireball
Corites charge at you from the sky in a fiery dash dealing 80+ base damage. They telegraph the charge with a brief pause. Dodge horizontally when they dive and counter-attack immediately after. They come in groups, so keep moving.
Solar Pillar Advanced Techniques
Low Ceiling Safety Net
Build a solid block ceiling 8-10 blocks above your arena ground. This prevents accidental launches from knockback or jumps from reaching Crawltipede aggro height. Even if you get hit upward, the ceiling stops you.
Selenian Spin Timing
Selenians spin for about 2-3 seconds then pause. Count the rhythm and only fire during pauses. Alternatively, use melee exclusively — swords, flails, and yoyos ignore the reflect mechanic entirely.
Crawltipede Tail Snipe
If a Crawltipede does aggro you, its tail segment has only 400 HP and is the only vulnerable part. One strong hit kills it. Solar Eruption from a previous run can one-shot the tail from the ground.
Class Strategies
Ground-only ranged combat with careful shot timing around Selenian spins. Homing bullets help but can still be reflected.
Vortex Beater + Chlorophyte Bullets
Tsunami + Holy Arrows
Shroomite Armor (Ranged helmet)
Fishron Wings (ground dash only)
Ankh Shield
Ranger EmblemThe best class for Solar Pillar. Melee ignores Selenian reflects and you want to be grounded anyway. Beetle Armor tanks Corite charges.
Influx Waver
Terra Blade
Beetle Armor (Shell for defense)
Fishron Wings (ground dash only)
Ankh Shield
Warrior EmblemHoming magic works well but some spells get reflected. Razorblade Typhoon is your best friend — it tracks enemies while you dodge on the ground.

Sorcerer EmblemMinions fight automatically while you dodge on the ground. Summoner is surprisingly solid here since minions ignore Selenian spins.

Summoner EmblemCommon Mistakes
Crawltipede Instant KillHigh
Any time spent airborne triggers Crawltipede aggro — they deal 200+ damage per hit
Stay on the ground. Period. Do not double-jump, do not use wings to fly, do not use grapple upward. A solid ceiling above your arena prevents accidental ascents.
Selenian Projectile ReflectHigh
Selenians spin and bounce all projectiles back at you for full damage — your own bullets kill you
Use melee weapons, or time ranged shots for when Selenians stop spinning. Homing projectiles like Chlorophyte Bullets can still be reflected.
Accidental FlightHigh
Auto-jump, wing double-tap, or knockback launches you above the safe zone
Equip Ankh Shield for knockback immunity. Disable auto-jump. Build a low ceiling 8-10 blocks above ground as a safety net.
Overwhelmed by CoritesMed
Multiple Corites charge simultaneously from different angles while you are fighting Selenians
Keep moving horizontally. Corites dive in straight lines — lateral movement dodges them. Clear Corites first since they are easier to kill than Selenians.

After Defeating Solar Pillar

FAQ
QWhy do Crawltipedes keep killing me at the Solar Pillar?
Crawltipedes only target players who are airborne — more than about 10 blocks off the ground. If you fly, double-jump, or get knocked upward, they lock on and deal 200+ damage per pass. The fix is simple: stay on the ground. Equip Ankh Shield to prevent knockback launching you upward. Build a low ceiling above your arena as a backup. If one does aggro, hit its tail (400 HP) to kill it instantly.
QCan Selenians reflect all projectile types in Terraria?
Selenians reflect most projectiles when they are spinning — bullets, arrows, magic bolts, and thrown weapons all get bounced back for full damage. Melee sword beams from weapons like Terra Blade and Influx Waver can also be reflected. The safest approach is direct melee contact swings, minions (they cannot be reflected), or timing your shots for when Selenians stop spinning. A few magic weapons with unusual projectile types may bypass reflects, but it is not consistent enough to rely on.
QWhat is the best class for Solar Pillar in Terraria?
Melee is the strongest class for Solar Pillar. You want to stay grounded (melee excels at close range), Selenian reflects do not affect direct melee swings, and Beetle Armor tanks the Corite charges. Influx Waver is the top weapon choice. Summoner is second-best because minions ignore Selenian reflects. Ranger and Mage are harder because projectile reflects force you to time shots carefully.
QHow many enemies do you need to kill to break the Solar Pillar shield?
Kill 100 enemies in Normal mode or 150 enemies in Expert/Master mode. The shield counter appears at the bottom of the screen. Once the count hits zero, the shield breaks and the pillar becomes attackable — 20,000 HP and 20 DEF. The pillar itself cannot attack, so the shield phase is the actual hard part. Focus on survival during the enemy clear and save your damage burst for after the shield drops.
QWhat can you craft with Solar Fragments from the Solar Pillar?
Solar Fragments craft 3 items at the Ancient Manipulator: Solar Eruption (melee flail, 105 base damage, passes through walls), Daybreak (throwing spears that stack burning debuffs, up to 600 DPS), and Solar Flare Armor (melee set with 29% damage reduction and solar shield). You get 12-60 fragments per pillar kill. Solar Eruption and Daybreak are both top-tier weapons for the Moon Lord fight. Craft both if you have enough fragments.
Stats
Kill 100/150 surrounding enemies to break the shield, then attack the Pillar (20,000 HP, 20 DEF)
