The first crisis event every new player faces — learn to handle it with ease

Blood Moon

Blood Moon Overview

The Blood Moon is one of the most common nighttime events in Terraria. When triggered, the sky turns red, enemies swarm in large numbers, and NPCs offer special shop items. Blood Moons can occur at any stage of the game.

Blood Moons have an 11.1% (1/9) chance of occurring each night, when any player has more than 120 HP and at least one NPC exists in the world.

Enemy Types

Blood Moons spawn several special enemies, including variants that don't appear normally:

Blood Zombie — A Blood Moon-exclusive zombie variant, faster and stronger than normal zombies. Can drop the Money Trough.

Drippler — A flying enemy that dive-bombs from above. Drops the Money Trough.

Clown — Hardmode Blood Moon exclusive, throws bombs that destroy blocks. Very dangerous.

Important Drops

Blood Moon enemies drop several valuable items:

Money Trough — Summons a flying piggy bank for remote storage access anywhere.
KO Cannon — A powerful pre-Hardmode melee weapon.
Blood Tear — A consumable that manually triggers a Blood Moon.
Blood Moon Fishing — Special enemies and items can be caught during Blood Moons, including Blood Eels and Dreadnautilus.

Defense Strategies

These defense strategies help you survive Blood Moons:

Replace doors with platforms or actuators — Blood Moon zombies can open doors, so platforms prevent invasion.
Build simple defenses near your base — Pits and lava traps effectively stop ground enemies.
Seal NPC rooms completely — Blood Moon zombies attack NPCs, so ensure no gaps in housing.
