Goblin Invasion Complete Guide: Triggers, Enemies & Key Drops

The most important pre-Hardmode invasion — defeat it to unlock the Goblin Tinkerer and reforging

Trigger Conditions

The Goblin Invasion is one of the most important early-game invasion events. It triggers randomly once conditions are met, or manually with a Goblin Battle Standard:

Shadow Orb + 200 HPMust have broken at least one Shadow Orb or Crimson Heart.

5 TypesAt least one player must have 200+ max HP.

Goblin Tinkerer NPCOnce conditions are met, there's a 1/3 chance each dawn (or use Goblin Battle Standard to trigger manually).

Enemy Types

The Goblin Invasion features several enemy types:

Goblin Warrior — Melee type with high HP, charges directly at players.

Goblin Sorcerer — Teleports and fires Chaos Balls. The most dangerous goblin.

Goblin Archer — Ranged attacks with moderate damage.

Goblin Thief — Fast but low HP, tries to flank your defenses.

Key Drops

Goblin Invasion drops are extremely important:

Spiky Ball — Drops in large quantities, a thrown weapon very effective against invasions.
Harpoon — A reusable ranged weapon.
Shadowflame series (Hardmode) — Shadowflame Bow, Shadowflame Knife, and other powerful weapons.
Most Important: After defeating the invasion, find the bound Goblin Tinkerer NPC underground to unlock reforging.

Defense Strategies

Strategies to repel the Goblin Invasion:

Build a chokepoint — Create a narrow corridor near your NPC town to funnel goblins from one direction.
Lava traps — Place a thin layer of lava (less than half a block) at the entrance to auto-damage ground enemies without burning drops.
Recycle Spiky Balls — Pick up dropped Spiky Balls and throw them back at the goblins.

Practical Tips

Tips for handling Goblin Invasions:

Prioritize Goblin Sorcerers — Their wall-piercing Chaos Balls deal high damage and are the biggest threat.

Trigger multiple invasions for Spiky Balls — Spiky Balls are excellent for future invasion events.

Find the Goblin Tinkerer immediately after the invasion — He's one of the most important NPCs in the game.
