What Is the Torch God?

The Torch God is a pre-Hardmode mini boss event added in version 1.4. It triggers when you place enough torches underground — all torches will start shooting flame projectiles at you. Survive the assault and you'll receive Torch God's Favor.

This isn't a traditional boss — it's a survival challenge where you must endure a barrage of flame projectiles for a period of time.

How to Trigger

Place at least 101 torches below the surface layer (Underground or deeper), within a certain proximity of each other. The event triggers automatically when you approach the torches.

Battle Walkthrough & Dodging Tips

Once triggered, each torch fires a single flame projectile at you in sequence. The projectiles aren't extremely fast, but the sheer volume requires constant movement.

Bring healing potions and set up campfires. Each flame deals about 40 damage — not much individually, but it adds up quickly.

Wear your best defensive gear. The Obsidian Shield prevents knockback, helping you maintain a steady running pace.

The event ends once all torches have fired. Survive and you'll receive the reward.

Reward: Torch God's Favor

After surviving, Torch God's Favor drops as a consumable item. Using it permanently enables the Smart Torch effect:

Automatically converts placed torches to the optimal torch for the current biome, providing the correct luck bonus.
Using the correct torch in each biome increases your Luck stat, improving drop rates and rare event chances.
The effect is permanent — you only need to use it once. Each character only needs to complete the Torch God event once.

Practical Tips

These tips make the Torch God event much easier:

Build a long platform runway (200+ blocks) with healing stations at both ends.

Place exactly 101 torches to minimize the number of flame projectiles you need to dodge.

Keep a Recall Potion or Magic Mirror handy for emergency escape (though the event will reset).

Wait until you have decent armor before attempting — early-game health pools make this event quite deadly.
