How to Get Terraprisma

Daytime Empress of Light Strategy for the Best Summon Weapon

What is the Terraprisma?

Damage90 (Summon)
TypeSummon Weapon
Velocity12 (Very Fast)
Knockback4 (Weak)

The Terraprisma is the most powerful summon weapon in Terraria. It summons an enchanted sword minion that rapidly attacks enemies with incredible speed and damage. It only drops from the Empress of Light when she is defeated entirely during daytime hours — making it one of the hardest items to obtain in the game.

For a complete Empress of Light boss breakdown, see our dedicated guide: Empress of Light Complete Guide

Requirements Before You Start

Defeat Plantera (unlocks Prismatic Lacewing spawns)
Defeat Golem (recommended for gear progression)
Obtain Hallowed Armor (dodge set bonus is critical)
Build a proper arena in the Hallow biome
Stock up on buff potions (Ironskin, Regeneration, Endurance, Lifeforce, Swiftness)
Practice the nighttime Empress fight first

The Empress of Light deals instant-kill damage during daytime. One hit from any attack = death. You MUST be able to dodge every single attack to survive.

How to Summon Empress During Daytime

Find Prismatic Lacewing
1

Find Prismatic Lacewing

Spawns on the surface Hallow biome at night (7:30 PM - 12:00 AM) after Plantera is defeated. It's a rare glowing butterfly critter.

Catch with Bug Net
2

Catch with Bug Net

Use a Bug Net (or Lihzahrd Power Cell) to catch the Lacewing. Store it for the right timing. You can also kill it directly to summon instantly.

Wait for 4:30 AM
3

Wait for 4:30 AM

The key to the Terraprisma is timing. Daytime starts at 4:30 AM in Terraria. Release or kill the Lacewing right at 4:30 AM to maximize your fight time.

Fight and Win Before Night
4

Fight and Win Before Night

You must defeat the Empress entirely during daytime (before 7:30 PM). If she's alive when night falls, she won't drop the Terraprisma even if killed after.

Timing Tips

  • Daytime in Terraria is 4:30 AM to 7:30 PM (15 hours of in-game time)
  • Summon her as early as possible — 4:30 AM is ideal
  • An Enchanted Sundial can skip to daytime if needed
  • The fight typically takes 2-5 minutes depending on your gear and skill

Arena Setup for Daytime Fight

Long Platform Rows

Long Platform Rows

Build 3-4 layers of platforms spanning 200+ blocks horizontally. The Empress's attacks cover wide areas — you need maximum space to dodge.

Campfire & Heart Lantern

Campfire & Heart Lantern

Place along each platform layer for continuous life regeneration. Every bit of recovery matters when one hit kills you.

Heart Lanterns

Heart Lanterns

Alternate with campfires for maximum regeneration coverage across your arena.

Sunflower Placement

Sunflower Placement

Place sunflowers on solid ground beneath platforms for the Happy! buff (+10% movement speed, -17% enemy spawn rate).

During daytime, every single attack from the Empress of Light deals instant-kill damage. There is no amount of defense or HP that can save you — you must dodge everything.

  • Build the arena in the surface Hallow biome — this is where the Lacewing spawns
  • Vertical space is just as important as horizontal — her attacks come from all angles
  • Remove any blocks or walls that might obstruct your movement during dodging
  • Place a bed and set spawn point nearby for quick retries

Best Loadout by Class

Melee

Melee
WeaponPossessed Hatchet / Influx Waver
ArmorHallowed Armor (Melee helmet)
AccessoriesMaster Ninja Gear, Warrior Emblem, Mechanical Glove, Wings, Frostspark Boots
Tips
  • Hallowed Armor's Holy Protection dodge is your lifeline — it blocks one lethal hit every 30 seconds
  • Possessed Hatchet homes in automatically, letting you focus entirely on dodging
  • Influx Waver has longer range but requires aiming
  • Avoid getting close — use ranged melee projectiles only

Ranged

Ranged
WeaponTsunami / Eventide (with Holy Arrows)
ArmorHallowed Armor (Ranged helmet)
AccessoriesRanger Emblem, Magic Quiver, Wings, Master Ninja Gear, Frostspark Boots
Tips
  • Tsunami with Holy Arrows is the highest DPS option for this fight
  • Hallowed Armor dodge is essential — do not use Shroomite Armor for daytime
  • Keep maximum distance and strafe horizontally
  • Eventide (if you already have it from night kills) is also excellent

Magic

Magic
WeaponRazorblade Typhoon / Inferno Fork
ArmorHallowed Armor (Magic helmet)
AccessoriesSorcerer Emblem, Mana Cloak, Wings, Master Ninja Gear, Frostspark Boots
Tips
  • Razorblade Typhoon homes in and pierces — fire and focus on dodging
  • DO NOT use Spectre Hood for daytime — you need Hallowed Armor's dodge
  • Mana Flower + Greater Mana Potions for uninterrupted casting
  • Inferno Fork is a good alternative with high single-target damage

Summoner

Summoner
WeaponXeno Staff / Sanguine Staff + Morning Star whip
ArmorHallowed Armor (any helmet)
AccessoriesSummoner Emblem, Papyrus Scarab, Wings, Master Ninja Gear, Frostspark Boots
Tips
  • Summoner is the easiest class for this fight — minions auto-attack while you dodge
  • Hallowed Armor's dodge is essential, even without summoner armor bonuses
  • Xeno Staff minions have the best tracking AI in the game
  • Tag the Empress once with a whip, then focus 100% on dodging

Attack Patterns & How to Dodge

Phase 1 - Graceful Attacks

Phase 1: Graceful Attacks (100%-50% HP)

The Empress uses Prismatic Bolts (homing projectiles), Sun Dance (sweeping beam), and Ethereal Lance (piercing dashes). During daytime, every attack is instant-kill, but the patterns remain the same as nighttime.

  • Move in large circles to outrun Prismatic Bolts
  • Fly vertically when Sun Dance sweeps horizontally
  • Watch for the telegraph lines before Ethereal Lance — dash perpendicular to them
Phase 2 - Enraged Assault

Phase 2: Enraged Assault (below 50% HP)

Attack frequency increases dramatically. Everlasting Rainbow (lingering rainbow trail) is added. Prismatic Bolts become much denser. She combines multiple attack types simultaneously.

  • Never stop moving — lingering in rainbow trails means instant death
  • This phase is shorter if your DPS is high — prioritize damage gear
  • Use Master Ninja Gear dash and Hallowed dodge for emergency escapes
Daytime - One-Hit Kill Mode

Daytime Enrage: Instant-Kill Mode

During daytime, ALL attacks deal maximum damage (enough to one-shot any player regardless of defense). Attack speed and aggression are increased. This is the only way to get the Terraprisma — survive the entire fight without getting hit.

  • Master the attack patterns in nighttime fights first — you need to dodge EVERYTHING
  • Hallowed Armor Holy Protection gives you one free hit every 30 seconds
  • Shield of Cthulhu / Master Ninja Gear dash provides crucial i-frames
  • Stay calm and maintain consistent movement patterns

Step-by-Step Strategy

1

Prepare Your Loadout

Equip Hallowed Armor, your class weapons, and all mobility accessories. Buff with Ironskin, Regeneration, Endurance, Lifeforce, and Swiftness potions.

2

Wait for 4:30 AM

Stand in your arena in the Hallow. Watch the in-game clock. The moment it hits 4:30 AM (when the music changes to daytime), you're ready.

3

Summon Immediately

Release or kill the Prismatic Lacewing right at 4:30 AM. This gives you the maximum 15 hours of daytime to complete the fight.

4

Focus on Dodging Phase 1

During Phase 1 (100%-50% HP), maintain distance and use large circular movements. Let homing weapons or minions deal damage while you focus on survival.

5

Survive Phase 2

Below 50% HP, she gets much more aggressive. Use your Hallowed Armor dodge for emergencies. Keep moving and don't panic — consistent movement is key.

6

Claim Your Terraprisma

Once defeated during daytime, the Terraprisma drops with 100% probability. Pick it up and enjoy the strongest summon weapon in the game!

Is the Terraprisma Worth It?

Pros

  • Highest DPS summon weapon in the entire game
  • Minion has perfect tracking AI — never misses targets
  • Extremely fast attack speed with high base damage (90)
  • Works with all summoner accessories and buffs
  • Effective against every boss in the game including Moon Lord

Cons

  • One of the hardest items to obtain — requires flawless dodging
  • Requires post-Plantera gear progression to attempt
  • Multiple attempts may be needed to master the daytime fight
  • Prismatic Lacewing spawns are limited to specific conditions

Verdict

Absolutely worth it. The Terraprisma is not just the best summon weapon — it's one of the best weapons in the game period. Even non-summoner classes benefit from having one as a secondary minion. The challenge of obtaining it is part of Terraria's endgame experience.
