Mimic Combat Guide: Arenas, Class Strats & the Loot You Actually Want
Part 1 covered summoning and drops. This part gets into the real stuff — arena builds, how each class fights them, speed farming setups, and which drops to prioritize.
Arena Builds
Your arena makes or breaks your farm. A flat tunnel with no buffs versus a proper setup — we're talking 3x speed difference. Pick the one that matches your gear:
Starter Arena
100 blocks wide × 50 blocks tallGood enough for your first few kills. Platforms to run on, campfires to not die. Nothing fancy.
- 3-layer wood platforms (15 blocks apart)
- 2 Campfires and 2 Heart Lanterns
- Guardrails on both ends to prevent falling
- Empty chest in the center for summoning
Trap-Assisted Arena
120 blocks wide × 60 blocks tallLava and spikes do half the work for you. Mimics take passive damage the whole fight — you just finish them off.
- Thin lava layer at bottom (1 block deep)
- Spike traps with timers
- Honey pool recovery area
- Teleporters on both sides for quick returns
Speed Farm Arena
150 blocks wide × 80 blocks tallThe endgame setup. Water Candles, Battle Potions, automated lava — kills per hour goes through the roof.
- Multi-layer platform system (5 layers)
- Automated lava kill system
- Dense Water Candle placement
- NPC housing for recovery bonuses
How to Fight Them
Mimics do two things: charge and jump. Once you learn the rhythm, they're honestly not that bad. The #1 rule — don't stand still.
Kiting (Works for Everyone)
Just keep running. Mimics have terrible tracking — horizontal movement alone dodges most of their attacks. Run, shoot, repeat.
- Keep moving horizontally — standing still is how you die
- When it jumps, use wings to fly over it
- Running across platforms is the easiest way to maintain distance
- Dash accessories make dodging almost trivial
Class Strategies
Melee
Shadowflame Knife / Flying Knife- Shadowflame Knife has a projectile — you don't need to facetank
- Adamantite defense lets you eat a few hits without panicking
- Flying Knife homes in automatically — perfect for kiting
- Demon Scythe deals damage while you run away
Safe Spot Cheese (Low Effort)
With the right terrain setup, Mimics literally can't hit you while you deal damage for free. Great if your gear is underleveled or you just want to chill.
- Stand on a 3-block-high platform — Mimics can't jump that high
- Use narrow corridors to completely restrict their movement
- Homing weapons make this strategy brain-dead easy
- Heads up: Hallowed Mimics can fly, so this works less well against them
Advanced Farming Tricks
Once you've got the basics down, these techniques turn "I can beat them" into "I'm farming them on autopilot":
Speed Farm Rotation
A standardized loop that eliminates downtime between kills. Once you're in the groove, kills per hour doubles.
- Pop Battle Potion, place Water Candle
- Drop an empty chest in arena center
- Insert key, close chest
- Kill with your prepped weapon loadout
- Grab drops, immediately start next round
Lava Chip Damage
A thin lava layer on the floor constantly damages Mimics. You barely have to attack — just clean up.
- Lay a 1-block-deep thin lava layer on the arena floor
- Use half-blocks or platforms so lava doesn't destroy drops
- Mimics take continuous burn damage on contact
- You just deal the remaining damage
Multi-Summon
Place 2-3 chests, summon multiple Mimics at once, AoE them down. Double the loot, double the risk.
- Place 2-3 empty chests (at least 10 blocks apart)
- Quickly insert keys into each chest
- Use AoE weapons to hit them all simultaneously
- Way better with a trap arena backing you up
Semi-AFK Farm
Build a fully automated arena, equip summoner gear, stand in a safe spot. Go grab coffee.
- Build a full auto lava + spike trap arena
- Equip summoner gear (zero manual attacks needed)
- Stand in your safe spot and idle
- Come back occasionally to collect drops and re-summon
Drops, Priority & What to Farm First
Not all Mimic drops are created equal. Here's what's worth your keys and what you can skip:
Farming Priority
- Daedalus Stormbow (Ranged mains — this is your graduation weapon)
- Flying Knife (Melee pick — homing is too good to pass up)
- Fetid Baghnakhs (melee speed demon — shreds everything)
- Putrid Scent (universal accessory, every class benefits)
- Flesh Knuckles (tank builds need this, period)
FAQ
The questions that come up every time someone starts farming Mimics:
SummoningWhat's the difference between regular and biome Mimics?
Regular Mimics spawn naturally underground — generic drops, nothing special. Biome Mimics (Hallowed/Corrupt/Crimson) require keys to summon and have exclusive drops that are way better. All the good stuff is behind biome Mimics.
SummoningCan I get my key back after putting it in?
Nope. The second you place a key in an empty chest, Mimic spawns and the key is gone. Make sure you're buffed and ready before you close that chest.
CombatWill lava destroy the drops?
Only if it's deeper than 1 block. A thin 1-block lava layer won't touch drops. Stick to 1 block and you're golden.
CombatCan I summon multiple at once?
Yep — just use different chests. But fighting 2-3 simultaneously is no joke. Make sure your gear and dodging skills are up to it.
DropsWhich Mimic is the most worth farming?
Hallowed, hands down. Daedalus Stormbow is one of the strongest mid-game weapons and it single-handedly carries Destroyer. Corrupt/Crimson accessories are solid second priority.
EfficiencyHow many kills for a Stormbow?
25% drop rate, so 4 kills on average. But RNG is RNG — some people get it first try, some need 15+. Bring at least 8 keys to be safe.
TL;DR & Next Steps
Farm these and your mid-Hardmode gear problems are basically solved. Here's the short version:
- Build a proper arena — it makes everything 3x faster
- Kiting is the safest strategy and works for every class
- Stormbow is THE mid-game ranged weapon — don't skip it
- Batch your keys — craft 8+ before you start farming
- Battle Potion + Water Candle = more Souls = more keys = more runs
Recommended Farming Route
- Set up in the Hallow, farm Souls of Light → craft Keys of Light
- Farm Hallowed Mimics for Stormbow (Ranged) or Flying Knife (Melee)
- Move to Corruption/Crimson, farm Souls of Night → craft Keys of Night
- Farm Corrupt/Crimson Mimics for accessories and weapons
- Repeat until you have everything you need, then go fight Mech Bosses

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best Mimic farming arena?
Build a multi-platform arena 100-150 blocks wide and 50-80 tall. Add Campfires, Heart Lanterns, and a 1-block-deep lava layer on the floor. The lava deals passive damage without destroying drops — huge efficiency boost.
Which class farms Mimics the fastest?
Ranged with Daedalus Stormbow + Holy Arrows is the fastest by far. Melee uses Flying Knife for homing, Magic goes Crystal Serpent, and Summoner runs Spider Staff with Firecracker whip.
Can you AFK farm Mimics?
Semi-AFK, yes. Build an automated lava + spike trap arena and use summoner gear in a safe spot. It's slower than active farming, but you can do it while doing other things.
